ANDREA POWELLDirector, Lead Teacher of 3 Day Class and Co-teacher of 2 Day Class

Fourteen years ago Andrea realized her dream of opening a preschool that offers a dynamic early educational experience. With the help of leaders from Christ Lutheran Lower Saucon Church, School House Christian Preschool was founded and the doors opened wide! Her years at School House were preceded by four years of teaching at St. George's Christian Preschool in Hellertown and two years of substitute teaching at The Children's School in Burlington, VT. She is eager to continue her teaching journey in partnership with Assumption BVM. Andrea's higher education began with a BA in Political and Social Thought from the University of Virginia and a MS in Policy Sciences from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She discovered her calling to be an early childhood educator while her own children were in preschool. As a result, Andrea completed an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Northampton Community College after moving to Saucon Valley. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Curriculum and Instruction at Shippensburg University. Andrea is devoted to a holistic approach to early childhood education that recognizes all domains of child development; social and emotional, as well as physical and cognitive. Her goal is to give children the opportunity to learn the way God designed them to learn -- through play, exploration and interaction with others. Andrea is married to Terry and they have two grown children. Their daughter, Jessica, is an Associate for the Worldwide Farmer’s Exchange in Berkeley, CA. Their son, Garrett, is a mechanical engineer at Lutron Electronics in Coopersburg, PA. Terry and Andrea love hiking, kayaking, traveling and coming home to their puppies, Cooper and Gracie.

Bethany Stempert • Lead Teacher of 2 Day Class

When Bethany discovered School House Christian in her search for a quality preschool for her daughter, she immediately knew this was a community that she wanted to be a part of. Bethany earned a BS in Elementary and Special education from Houghton College and a MS in Elementary Education with a focus on reading and literacy from Walden University.  She taught special education in an inclusive setting in Georgia until she and her family relocated to Maryland to live closer to extended family. In 2012, they moved to the Lehigh Valley which they instantly fell in love with. Bethany is married to her college sweetheart, Joe, and has 3 children: Samuel, Adelyn & Marcus. Along with enjoying the many outdoor activities and festivals in the area, Bethany enjoys reading, running, gardening, eating good food, and sharing picnics with her family at the South Mountain overlook.

CATHERINE BECK • Lead Teacher of 4 Day Class

Catherine Beck graduated from The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts in 2007. From there she decided that she wanted to pursue a career that incorporated her dance experience. She chose to go to Penn State Altoona and pursue Physical Therapy. After one year of general studies and another year of Kinesiology courses, she decided that life was not pulling her towards physical therapy anymore. She soon realized that she was more interested in working with young children. Cat packed her Penn State bags in 2010 and enrolled at Northampton Community College in Early Childhood Education. In 2012 she became the Assistant Preschool Teacher at Reibman Hall Children’s Center, and graduated in January of 2013 with her Associate’s degree of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education. Finally feeling comfortable in her choice of pursuing Early Education, she moved on to further her career and education at DeSales University. In 2015, she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Cat loves hiking, camping, cooking, snowboarding, all of the arts, yoga, geography and world studies, geology and plant and animal studies, and most of all her pug/shih Tzu Merlot.
